Merseyside schools are winning in more ways than one with ‘The Daily Mile’

This year MSP has had a dedicated officer working across Merseyside to support primary schools to get started with ‘The Daily Mile™’: the free initiative which encourages children to jog or run, at their own pace, for 15 minutes outside with their friends during the school day.

We know that schools who’ve already signed up to do The Daily Mile™ are feeling the benefits, from better mental health, to improved concentration and raised attainment – and if you haven’t already seen the videos we’ve shot with schools you can check them out here for yourselves, to see just how it’s helping schools and their pupils: http://merseysidesport.com/the-daily-mile/

To encourage more schools to sign up to start feeling the benefits soonest, we ran a competition during September and October, in partnership with Educate Magazine.

The lucky schools, who each won £250 each to spend on health and wellbeing, were:

  • Brookfields School (Halton)
  • Huyton with Roby CofE Primary School (Knowsley)
  • St. Oswald’s Catholic Primary (Liverpool)
  • Linaker Primary School (Sefton)
  • Well Lane Primary School (Wirral)
  • plus a further school to be confirmed in St Helens

If you know a Merseyside Primary school that would be interested in taking up The Daily Mile™ they can get started by visiting merseysidesport.com/the-daily-mile/
