Merseyside School Games goes virtual

The week of July 6th – 10th 2020 saw Merseyside School Games go virtual in response to the pandemic. Going online allowed the pupils and schools of Merseyside to continue to be part of The School Games event even though face-to-face events had sadly had to be cancelled.

The approach was a collaboration between MSP, the network of Merseyside School Games Organisers and schools themselves.

The virtual games kicked off with an art competition to design a logo that represents all our boroughs and the School Games Values. The winning logo was decided by our operational panel and used throughout the virtual games.

Each day focused on a different theme which included 3 different challenges to cater to different abilities. These activities focused on children having fun and achieving their personal best whilst being physically active and using a range of different skills, as well as some challenges being cross-curriculum.

Daily themes were used to offer a wide variety of activity: Movement Monday, Target Tuesday, Walking Wednesday, Thinking Thursday and Fun Friday.

The event was heavily promoted on social media by both MSP, the network of Merseyside School Games Organisers and schools themselves. The uptake was fantastic and just some of the activities can be viewed in the tweets below.

As you’ll see, a great time was had by all!
