Councillor Wendy Simon, Cabinet Member for Culture Tourism and Events Liverpool City Council, has 35 years’ experience in local government, as well as 8 years representing the Kensington and Fairfield Ward on Liverpool City Council. Wendy’s main task involves managing Liverpool’s legacy as European Capital of Culture 2008.
As Assistant Mayor and Cabinet Member, her role includes overseeing £400m of cultural regeneration developments. Wendy’s portfolio includes Culture Liverpool, Libraries, St George’s Hall and The Town Hall as well as responsibility for sports development and a wide range of sports facilities including sports centres, swimming pools, running track, tennis centre, soccer centre and gymnastics centre. Wendy is passionate about ensuring residents of Liverpool receive the best sporting and cultural opportunities possible.
She believes the skills and expertise she’s developed whilst working in partnership with diverse stakeholders to produce and deliver a world class events, sports and physical activity programme, will greatly support the work of the board.
