About Tom:
Tom Smith’s current role is Director for The Sports Agency and previously he was the Regional Manager for Badminton England and Senior Participation Manager at the England Handball Association. Tom’s high level of optimism and advocacy for partnerships and programmes has impacted on colleagues and created sustainable partnerships across the North for Badminton England, whilst protecting and promoting his regional team. Tom values the importance of collaborative decision making and advocates his staff to be inspired by their own and their company’s achievements.Working across the commercial sector, local authorities and trusts, Tom has managed the delivery of Badminton England’s Whole Sport Plan Strategy in the region. He’s done this by working with across the leisure industry and educational sector, using segmentation data to match demographics with the correct programme and marketing. He designed and implemented Delivery Plans signed off by Sport England and Badminton England, which are now used by all the Regional Managers nationally.Tom currently chair’s Badminton England’s Operational Management Group which is a key driver in increasing the use and promotion of programmes for partners and members. He also leads on developments in core cities Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool.

Tom’s active life:
“Outside of work is still very much about Sport… I watch all types of sports and have an attempt at a few others each month with varying levels of success these include Triathlons, Football, Hockey, Squash and Table Tennis and of course Badminton!”

What has been Tom’s greatest sporting moment?:
“Raising £9.5k for Battens Disease Charity (which is several different genetic life-limiting neurodegenerative diseases) by training for and completing a full Ironman Triathlon in Nice, France – the hardest but most fulfilling thing I have ever done!”
