Safeguarding

BEST PRACTICE

Playing sport and being physically active should always be a fun and enjoyable experience. We know that sometimes though, it’s not easy to know how to do the right thing when it comes to safeguarding and protecting children, young people, and vulnerable adults, from harm.

MSP are committed to making sure everyone participating, whatever the activity, can take part in a safe and friendly environment. We’ve worked closely with the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) for over a decade to develop our own knowledge in order that we can help others to understand and put safeguarding measures in place. In addition to continuing to work closely with the CPSU, MSP is now working with Ann Craft Trust to develop our knowledge in respect of adults at risk and to be able to share this with others.

Signposting you to the right advice

This section of our site offers you access to a range of resources which we hope you’ll find useful, whether you are:

  • a child wanting to tell someone you need help
  • a parent, carer or guardian wanting to choose the right club or provider
  • a coach, instructor or leader (professional or voluntary) enabling people to take part in sport and physical activity, who is looking for the knowledge and skills to protect both participants and yourself
  • a club or organisation wanting to understand the types of practice you should have in place

Knowledge into action

MSP offer a range of training to support people working in the sport and physical activity sector, including courses offered in partnership with UK Coaching.

At MSP we’re also involved in some direct sport and physical activity delivery ourselves, including part of the School Games programme, so, we regularly put our safeguarding knowledge and standards into action. With this in mind, we’ve also been independently assessed as meeting the Advanced Level for the Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport.
