Becoming a Volunteer ImageBy giving your time you can develop in lots of different ways - gain experience in a variety of different roles, network with key organisations, improve your life skills, make yourself more employable, put 'Volunteer' on your CV and lots more!

Sport relies on the commitment of volunteers who give their time and energy to provide sporting opportunities to people in Merseyside, and to ensure the continued success of our clubs.

Sport volunteering can cover a range of activities from coaching, player development, running training sessions through to club administration, fundraising and the organisation of events, competitions and leagues.

For young people, volunteering provides an opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience while continuing to enjoy all the benefits participation in sport provides. Many young people in Merseyside are already involved in sport volunteering and as a result benefit from:

  • Enhanced confidence and personal development opportunities
  • The enjoyment and satisfaction of providing a service to others
  • Career development, training and the opportunity to achieve recognised qualifications
  • Making life long friends through sport
  • Being recognised as a valued member of their local community

The Sports Volunteering North West programme provides the opportunity for young people ages 16-24 not only to become involved in volunteering but also to receive the support and recognition for their commitment. In 2006 over 200 young people from across Merseyside participated in volunteering under the programme and committed over 250,000 hours of time to supporting sport in their local communities.

Sport needs all of us to help talented young sports people to achieve their dreams. VOLUNTEER; give your time and talents to the future champions of Merseyside.
