The Merseyside Youth Games is an annual event that invites sporting youngsters
from the six boroughs of Merseyside to compete and represent their borough. We
are also launching the Community Games - an event to encourage those young people
within the community who are seen as 'socially excluded' to engage in sport and
cultural activities.
The Games plays host to a variety of different sports, and competitors range from all levels of sporting abilities. The games were originally formed in 1992 and involved the then 5 local authorities with a total of 1200 competitors. Since then the number of sports have grown as well as the number of competitors to over 3,500. While year round trials for the games involve over 60,000 young sports people.
As well as being an excellent opportunity for young people to compete in such a wide range of sports it also provides any one who is willing, the chance to volunteer in a variety of tasks. Because, without the help of the hundreds of volunteers, the Youth Games would simply not be able to run.
