Volunteers: Volunteering Opportunities

Step Into Sport

Step into Sport is part of the Governments PE and Sport Strategy for Young People. The principles of Step into Sport are to encourage more young people to become involved in sport in their local community. The programme targets the 11 – 19 age group and provides a framework of co-ordinated opportunities at a local level.

The Step out element of the Step into Sport programme is based on the movement of young people aged 16 – 19 from school based volunteering to community based volunteering through the provision of volunteer placements in high quality community clubs. This is where young people take on a variety of roles from coaching and officiating through to web design and administration.

If you are looking for a community placement as a young volunteer or you can provide a community placement for a young person please click here to see the Step into Sport contact from the Merseyside Sports Partnership Core Team.

Merseyside Primary Games

Merseyside Primary Games is an annual event that invites sporting youngsters from the six boroughs of Merseyside to compete and represent their borough.

The Games plays host to a variety of different sports, and competitors range from all levels of sporting abilities. The games were originally formed in 1992 and involved the then 5 local authorities with a total of 1200 competitors. Since then the number of sports have grown as well as the number of competitors to over 3,500. While year round trials for the games involve over 60,000 young sports people.

As well as being an excellent opportunity for young people to compete in such a wide range of sports it also provides any one who is willing, the chance to volunteer in a variety of tasks. Because, without the help of the hundreds of volunteers, the Youth Games would simply not be able to run.
