Merseyside Sports Foundation (MSF) is currently working with a care home in Liverpool on a pilot project focused on supporting the residents to access opportunities to be physically active.
In order to support this exciting project, we are looking to put together a small group of enthusiastic and empathetic volunteers to become the home’s Activity Champions. As an Activity Champion you will visit the home on a regular basis supporting the residents to take part in a variety of physical activities. These may include table tennis, boccia, golf and walking in a supported environment.
No previous experience of leading or delivering physical activity or sport is required to become one of our Activity Champions; in the first instance we are looking for people who want to help us make a positive difference to the lives of this group of older adults. Having patience, understanding and the ability to treat someone as an individual are the most important attributes – given the differing needs of the residents – which you will bring to the role.
All Activity Champions will receive an induction to the project from MSF. In addition you will receive an induction and tour of the care home before starting in order to meet both the staff and residents.
We are looking for volunteers who would be able to commit to attending the care home on a weekly basis – there is some flexibility in when you would be able to volunteer, but preferably during the morning or afternoon to fit in with the residents’ routine.
Benefits of volunteering as an Activity Champion:
• Meet new people
• Learn how to co-ordinate physical activity and sport sessions
• Receive training on how to lead differing physical activities or sports
• Improve the health and wellbeing of older adults in a care home setting
• Be able to travel to the L8 area in Liverpool (expenses will be covered)
