Welcome to the first Northwest 2012 newsletter of 2008 – and what a year we have in store with the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and the handover to London. The year got off to a fantastic start with Liverpool taking up the baton as European Capital of Culture, following a spectacular opening weekend in January. The benefits of this accolade will be felt not only in Liverpool and Merseyside, but across the whole Northwest, with each of our sub-regions launching year-long campaigns to celebrate the diverse culture and heritage we have in the Northwest. January also saw the national launch of the London 2012 Business Network, right here in Manchester. This one-stop shop will show businesses how they can get involved in the Olympics – it’s vital that businesses across the region look to the opportunities London 2012 offers and get involved. We’ve already seen a number of Northwest companies who are already getting in on the action and winning major contracts. The challenge now is to continue this momentum and ensure that 2012 leaves a lasting legacy for England’s Northwest. Read on to find out more about the latest developments.
